Emma (novel) by Jane Austen

Emma Woodhouse, the story’s main character, is introduced as ‘handsome, clever, and rich,’ though somewhat spoiled. Following the recent marriage of her former governess, Emma takes pride in her matchmaking abilities and decides to mentor Harriet Smith, an illegitimate orphan. She hopes to marry Harriet to the vicar, Mr. Elton, and is so confident in this plan that she convinces Harriet to turn down a proposal from a young farmer who would actually be a far better match for her.

Elie Wiesel Quote

"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference."

Elie Wiesel | Romanian-American writer and professor
